This week for Art Week, Maple Class have been getting creative outdoors by making beautiful minibeast nature suncatchers – and what a wonderful link to our new Science topic on micro-habitats and minibeasts!
The children began by exploring our outdoor area, carefully collecting natural materials such as leaves, petals, grass, and small flowers. We talked about the different places minibeasts like to live – under logs, in the soil, and among plants – and how these are called micro-habitats. The children were fantastic at spotting areas where minibeasts might like to hide and thrive.
The children then designed their own suncatchers and created their favourite minibeasts, such as butterflies, ladybirds, and snails! This was a great opportunity to develop fine motor skills, creativity, and an appreciation for the natural world.
This activity has been a perfect way to combine art, science, and outdoor learning, helping the children to deepen their understanding of the world around them in a fun and meaningful way.
We can’t wait to continue exploring minibeasts and their micro-habitats over the coming weeks!
