As part of our art topic on paper sculptures, Maple Class have been busy working collaboratively to create a giant spider sculpture.

We began by looking closely at spiders, exploring their structure and key characteristics. The children noticed important features such as the number of legs, the body shape, and how spiders look in real life. This helped them to understand what they would need to include in their own sculptures.

Working in small groups, the children then used newspaper and tissue paper to bring their ideas to life. They practised a range of techniques including rolling, twisting, bending, folding and scrunching the paper to create different parts of the spider. It was fantastic to see how they worked together, sharing ideas and helping each other to build and shape their sculpture.

The finished giant spiders were incredibly impressive and showed great creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. The children were very proud of what they had achieved together, and it was a wonderful way to combine art skills with our understanding of minibeasts.
