Our classroom has been full of excitement as we turned into young scientists today… with a wriggly twist!

We created our very own wormeries to help us answer the question: what do worms do to the soil? The children were so curious and couldn’t wait to get started.

First, we worked together to build two different wormeries. One was a tall, small bottle so we could see the layers clearly going up, and the other was a larger bottle placed on its side to give the worms more space to move around. The children helped carefully layer soil, sand and natural materials, thinking like real scientists about what worms might need.

Then came the most exciting part… adding the worms! There were lots of fascinated faces as the children observed the worms wriggling into their new homes.

Over the next few days, we will be using our scientific skill of observing over time to watch what happens. Will the worms mix the soil? Will they create tunnels? The children have already started sharing their ideas and predictions.

It has been wonderful to see such curiosity, care and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see what our wiggly friends teach us!
