We’ve been busy mathematicians in EYFS this week as we explored the numbers 9 and 10 in lots of exciting ways!

The children have been finding and making 9 and 10 using a wide range of resources, both inside the classroom and out in our outdoor area. It was wonderful to see them taking their learning everywhere!

Inside, the children used cubes, counters and building blocks to carefully count out groups of 9 and 10. They checked their counting, moved objects around, and even began to notice what makes 9 and 10 special.

Outside is where things got even more exciting! The children used larger resources like crates, tyres and construction materials to build and represent the numbers. Some made lines of 10 tyres, others stacked crates or collected objects to show 9 in different ways.

We saw lots of fantastic counting, problem-solving and teamwork. The children were talking about their ideas, checking each other’s counting and exploring different ways to make the same number.

It has been brilliant to see their confidence growing as they recognise, count and represent 9 and 10 in so many creative ways. Our outdoor area really did turn into a giant maths classroom!
