This week in Maple Class, the children took part in a hands-on science investigation to explore which materials are waterproof.

We began by looking at and feeling a range of different materials, such as paper, fabric, plastic and foil. The children talked about what the materials felt like and made predictions about which ones they thought would keep water out and which ones might let water through.

The children then tested each material carefully, taking turns to pour water and observe what happened. They watched closely to see whether the water soaked in or stayed on the surface. After testing, we discussed the results together and talked about whether their predictions were correct.

This investigation helped the children to develop their observation skills, use scientific language, and begin to understand the properties of different materials. The children showed great curiosity and teamwork throughout the experiment and really enjoyed discovering the results together.
