Image of Sensory Scavenger Hunt Fun!

This week, our Reception class took their learning outside for a sensory scavenger hunt, and what a wonderful adventure it was! As part of Maple Class' Scie topic on using our five senses, we explored the world around us using our eyes, ears, noses, and hands to discover all sorts of natural treasures.

We looked closely to see fluffy white clouds, tall swaying trees, and tiny bugs crawling in the grass. The children were fascinated by the different shapes and colours in nature. We stopped to listen carefully and could hear birds singing, leaves rustling in the wind, and even the crunch of our own footsteps! Using our noses, we smelled freshly cut grass, sweet flowers, and the earthy scent of autumn leaves. There were lots of lovely descriptions shared, like “it smells like the park!” With our hands, we touched rough tree bark, smooth stones, soft petals and the tickly grass beneath us. Some children even noticed how the breeze felt on their skin. The children were so enthusiastic and used fantastic vocabulary to describe what they experienced.

It was a fun, hands-on way to explore the world around us and link learning to real-life experiences. We can’t wait for more outdoor adventures!
