Exploring Mass in EYFS: Heavy or Light?

This week in maths, our EYFS children have been busy investigating mass! The children explored objects around the classroom, estimating which were heavier or lighter. To test their ideas, they became human balance scales, holding an object in each hand to see which felt heavier. We then used real scales to check our predictions.

Later in the week, we took our learning further by using balancing scales to measure mass. The children chose different objects and used cubes and other items to balance the scales, counting how many were needed to match the object’s weight.
