Image of How Do We Grow? A Tall Order for Our Young Scientists!

This week in Science, our EYFS and KS1 scientists put their measuring skills to the test as they investigated human growth! Armed with measuring tapes and teamwork, they set out to answer two big questions:

  • Are children in the same year group all the same height?
  • Do children grow taller as they get older?

Working in teams, each child had an important role - holding the tape measure steady, recording results on a whiteboard, and, of course, lying still to be measured! We compared heights across EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2, looking for patterns in how we grow.

Our KS1 learners took their investigation even further by creating a graph to record age and height, then sequencing pictures of people from shortest to tallest. Their findings? While we do tend to grow taller was we get older, no two children grow at exactly the same rate - everyone is unique!
