Our Computing Unit this term is all about programming algorithms. Class One have enjoyed giving each other instructions and following a sequence of instructions. In our most recent lesson, we used paper bee-bots and counters to explore basic programming concepts by giving simple instructions to the bee-bots, including forwards, backwards, turn left and turn right.
The children worked in pairs and followed those four directions on a wildlife-themed grid, helping them develop important skills such as sequencing, problem-solving and critical thinking. Before each move, the children made predictions about where their bee-bot would end up, which sparked lots of discussion and excitement.
By the end of the lesson, the children had a deeper understanding of how algorithms work and how small changes in instructions can lead to different outcomes.
Great team work Class One!
