Today in Science, Class One became worm experts! We learned all about micro habitats - tiny, special places where creatures like worms live. And where do worms live? Under the soil, of course!
Armed with trowels and a lot of excitement, we headed outside to our Forest School area to make a wormery - a special home for worms to live in so we can observe them closely. Working in groups, we created layers of soil, sand and leaves to make sure our worm friends felt right at home. We carefully placed a couple of worms in their new habitat and watched them wiggle into the soil to start making tunnels.
The best part? We learned that worms are super important to our environment! They help make the soil healthy by breaking down dead plants into tiny bits that plants can use to grow. So, when you see a worm, remember: it’s a tiny Gardner working hard to keep the Earth in top-top condition.
Now that our wormery is set up, we’ll be observing it over the next few weeks to see how our worms are getting on. Will they dig tunnels? Will they make our soil even better? We can’t wait to find out!
