Our classroom transformed into a buzzing kitchen as our young chefs took on an exciting hands-on project: making their very own custom smoothies!
- Following the Design Brief
Our young chefs started by reviewing their individual design briefs, making sure they followed their pre-planned recipes, chosen fruits, and juice bases.
2. Chopping & Preparing
Practising great kitchen safety and fine motor skills, the children carefully chopped their selected fruits—like strawberries, bananas, and pineapples—into neat, small chunks.
3. Blending It Up
Next came the fun part! The children added their fruit chunks to the blender, poured in their chosen juice, and watched in delight as the blenders whirred everything into colourful liquid treats.
4. Tasting & Evaluating
After pouring their creations into cups, the children tasted their smoothies and evaluated the results. They discussed the flavours, whether they liked the taste, and how close it came to their original plans!
Class Reflection: Next Time's Improvement!
During our class discussion, the children noticed some smoothies had small bits of skin or seeds left over. As a class, we decided that next time, we will pour the smoothies through a sieve into our cups so they are super smooth and completely lump-free!
Try It at Home!
Want to recreate the fun at home? Let your child take the lead!
- Prep: Help them chop their favourite fruits into small chunks.
- Blend: Add the fruit and a splash of fruit juice into a blender and whizz until blended.
- Pro-Tip: Strain it through a sieve before serving for that super-smooth finish!
A huge well done to our brilliant chefs for working so carefully and thoughtfully evaluating their work!
