This week in RE, children across EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 came together to explore a very special big idea: Hope.
To launch our discussion, we listened to the story of Lazarus and talked about how people in the story felt moments of sadness, followed by renewed comfort, joy, and hope. The children thoughtfully considered what it means to feel hopeful—describing it as "wishing for something good with your heart" and "looking forward to happy days."
Using the story as a springboard, the children spent time reflecting on their own lives and sharing what they are hopeful for. Here are a few of the wonderful thoughts shared across the classes:
-
In EYFS, our youngest learners expressed hope for kind friends, sunshine for outdoor play, and happy times with their families.
-
In Year 1, children reflected on hope for the world around them, such as caring for animals, helping people who feel sad, and learning new skills.
-
In Year 2, the children wrote and drew deeper reflections, sharing their hopes for a peaceful world, good health for loved ones, and achieving their personal goals this year.
It was inspiring to hear such thoughtful, caring ideas from our youngest pupils. Their bright outlook and empathy served as a wonderful reminder to us all about the power of staying hopeful!
