Over the past few weeks, Maple Class have been busy becoming designers and engineers during our D&T project! The children were challenged to design and create a sturdy, imaginative pencil pot that was both appealing and fit for purpose.
First, the children carefully explored different ideas and thought about how they could securely attach their cylinder pencil pot to its base. We discussed how important it was to make the pencil pots strong and stable so they would not topple over when filled with pencils and stationery. The children worked brilliantly to think about weight, balance and structure like real designers!
Next, everyone created a detailed design plan, drawing and colouring their ideas carefully. The children thought about how to make their pencil pots attractive to young children by choosing bright colours, fun themes and imaginative decorations.
Finally, the children brought their ideas to life by painting and decorating their creations, following their original plans closely. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, concentration and pride in their work.
We are so proud of the fantastic pencil pots Maple Class have created!
