It has been a busy two weeks of Science! We have been learning how to group and identify different animals.
In KS1, we moved from sorting animals to identifying why they belong in a specific group. We looked for clues like:
- Mammals: Do they have fur or hair?
- Birds: Do they have feathers and a beak?
- Fish: Do they have gills and scales?
- Reptiles: Is their skin dry and scaly?
- Amphibians: Is their skin cold and slimy?
???? Reception: Tactile Textures
Our Reception scientists joined in with a fantastic creative task! They have been making animal collages using different materials to represent animal "coverings."
They used:
- Soft felt for mammal fur.
- Bright, fluffy feathers for birds.
- Shiny foil and sequins for shimmering fish scales.
- Textured card for bumpy reptile skin.
This hands-on activity helped the children really feel the difference between the animal groups.
Great work, everyone!
