What an incredibly fun and sparkly afternoon we had for our final Stay and Play session with our wonderful new EYFS children joining Maple Class! We mixed festive cheer, literacy, creativity, and a little bit of detective work for a truly memorable Christmas celebration.
Our afternoon kicked off with a giggle as we read the hilariously festive story, "Santa's Lost His Pants!" The book sparked a very important mission: we couldn't let Santa deliver presents without his essential attire!
The Great Underpants Scavenger Hunt: The children became brilliant detectives, exploring our school grounds to find Santa's missing pants! It was a fantastic way to introduce the new ones to different areas of the school while solving a Christmas crisis!
Once the pants were recovered, it was time to make sure this never happened again...
The children then channelled their inner fashion designers and got busy creating some spectacular new underpants for Santa! Forget plain red, these were designer knickers! Using a dazzling array of materials—including feathers, glittering beads, shiny sequins, and lots of sparkle—the children collaged and decorated the most funky, fantastic, and festive pants Santa could ever wish for. The results were truly unique masterpieces ready for the North Pole runway!
Our learning areas were transformed into a magical Winter Wonderland, offering lots of opportunities for imaginative play:
Small World Arctic Exploration: The children worked together to build a cosy igloo using different materials, creating the perfect icy home for the penguins and polar bears. It was wonderful to see their teamwork and construction skills!
Decking the Halls: Little fingers were busy decorating our classroom Christmas tree with colourful baubles, practising their fine motor skills and festive styling.
Letters to the North Pole: The session wouldn't be complete without a chat with the big man himself! Maple Class and our new recruits wrote and drew their Christmas wishes, posting them carefully into our magic letterbox—straight to Santa!
We wrapped up our exciting morning with a joyful Christmas sing-a-long! We sang some of our favourite festive tunes, complete with lots of actions and enthusiastic dance moves!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for these Stay and Play sessions. It has been such a delight getting to know our newest Maple Class children and their families. We can't wait for you all to officially join us next year!
