What an exciting time we had in PE this week! Our gymnastics lesson wasn't about perfect rolls or balances; it was all about becoming amazing Jungle Animals and exploring how our bodies can move high, low, fast, and slow!
We transformed our gym into a wild obstacle course, and the children did an incredible job mastering all the animal movements.
Animal Challenges We Conquered:
- Slithering Snakes: We had to get super low to the ground, using our core muscles to slither and weave around the cones. The children were brilliant at keeping their bodies long and controlled!
- High and Low Giraffes: This challenge really tested our ability to change levels. We reached as high as we could, stretching our necks like a giraffe munching on leaves, and then bent low to take a big imaginary gulp of water from the waterhole.
- Leaping Frogs: We practised a strong, controlled jump! The children crouched down low and then sprung onto the landing mat, showing excellent power in their legs. Ribbit!
- Swinging Monkeys: This was a fun one for coordination! We practised reaching and moving like monkeys swinging through trees, focusing on continuous movement and safe landing.
It was wonderful to see everyone exploring new ways to travel and using different parts of their bodies to move like their favourite animals. We were focusing on the Gymnastics element of Travel and how we can change our levels and speed!
Ask me at home:
- What was your favourite animal to move like in the obstacle course?
- Can you show me a high stretch and a low stretch?
