Image of Taste Explorers on a Fruit & Veg Adventure!

This week, Maple Class rolled up their sleeves, opened their mouths, and stepped into the world of taste testing as part of our exciting Pumpkin Soup topic in D&T.

Our little taste explorers were incredibly brave as they tried a colourful variety of fruits and vegetables — some familiar, and some very new! From the crunch of raw carrots to the snap of sugar-snap peas, and from the tangy zing of apple to the juicy sweetness of tomatoes, the classroom was filled with curiosity, wrinkled noses, happy faces, and lots of giggles!

The children were encouraged to describe what they saw, felt and tasted, using words like:

  • “sweet,” “juicy,” and “crunchy” for taste
  • “squishy,” “bumpy,” and “smooth” for texture
  • And even some great new describing words like “mushy!

They talked about what they liked and didn't like, and shared their thoughts with friends — learning that it’s okay to have different tastes and it’s great to try new things!

This tasting session has helped the children become more familiar with healthy foods, and will feed into our upcoming D&T tasks — designing and making our own class soup, just like the animals in Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper.
