Image of Tamworth Castle Trip

What a day Class One had on their exciting school trip to Tamworth Castle! As part of our history topic on monarchs and castles, the children stepped into the past, exploring everything from dungeons to armouries and even meeting the Lady of the Castle!

After a fascinating tour of the castle, complete with real Anglo-Saxon gold from the Staffordshire Hoard, the children got hands-on in true knightly style. They dressed up as knights, created their own shields and held real swords! There was plenty of action too - as squires Class One worked hard to dress a wooden mannequin before practising their skills as poleaxe wielding brave knight, raising their axes high and low and shouting fiercely.

As servants to the lady of the Castle, they learned how to show respect and help set her grand dining table for the evening banquet. “My lady!” became a common phrase, and the children couldn’t have been more enthusiastic in their roles.

It was a day filled with history, fun and lots of learning!
