Image of Oracy in Action: Hot Seating

Today, Class One took a deep dive into the world of crayons when we explored the whimsical story of The Day The Crayons Quit by Dew Daywalt, where crayons have had enough and decide to voice their frustrations.

Our oracy focussed lesson saw the children stepping into the shoes of the crayon characters through hot seating. By asking clever questions like “Why is Blue Crayon feeling so down?” and “What made Red Crayon so angry?” the children unlocked the emotional depth of each crayon. Not only did they explore the crayon characters’ feelings but they also got to practise listening, speaking thinking critically - skills that are essential for confident communication.
