Image of D&T - exploring structures

For our D&T project this half term Class 1 are exploring structures so that the children can make a sturdy new chair for Baby Bear after Goldilocks broke it! Today we investigated how the shape of a structure affects its strength. We discovered that the cylinder is the strongest shape and can hold the most weight! Then the children worked in pairs to create a variety of different sized cylinders in order to test their strength and stability. At the end we put all our cylinders together to see how many books our structure could hold. We were very excited to see that the structure could support the weight of 50 books!
